CYBER SENSE ALERT: Bank Fraud Calls – How to Spot the Scam
The SMS: "R39,050 was spent from your Capitec Business Account at Sun Bet Arena." You don't have a Capitec account. You don't have a business account. But your heart races anyway. That's what scammers want.

Red Flags to Watch For:

📱 RANDOM NUMBER. Real banks use official shortcodes, not cellphone numbers.
⚠️ URGENCY. "R39,050!" "Act now!" Scammers create panic to stop you from thinking.
🏦 ACCOUNT YOU DON'T HAVE. Received a message about an account that's not yours? It's a scam. Delete it.
🆔 "CONFIRM YOUR ID." A real bank already has your ID. They don't need to ask.
❓ CAN'T ANSWER BASIC QUESTIONS. "What's my name?" "What's my account number?" Real banks know. Scammers don't.
🚫 "DON'T CALL YOUR BANK." If they tell you not to call the number on your card – it's a scam. Every time.

What to Do:

DO NOT REPLY

Don't call the number. Delete the message.

CHECK YOUR BANK APP

Open it directly. Check your transactions.

CALL THE NUMBER ON YOUR CARD

Not the number in the message.

FORWARD TO 7726

This helps block the scammer's number.

SHARE IT

Warn your family and WhatsApp groups.

Quick Tip

If it creates panic, it's a scam. Slow down. Verify officially.

Bottom Line: If it creates panic, it's a scam. Slow down. Verify officially.
